Another advocate of sketching is the psychology prof Barbara Tversky who has published research papers on the positive affect of sketching. Her book Mind in Motion is a great read and established that spatial reasoning, not language, as the foundation for abstract thought. We interviewed her on our Substack-hosted podcast, Artificiality, and wrote about her in our book, Make Better Decisions (https://mbd.zone).

Oh nice, yes I saw Barbara's name mentioned in some of the publications I was reading whilst researching this week's issue. That's so cool you interviewed her, I'll make sure I listen to that this week.

For most of us mere musicians, it takes 40 years of practice and performance to know that you can never get everything that is in your mind, out through your instrument. Although it would be boring if we could. We'd be AI's and I don't think an AI could ever play from the heart :)
